engineered construction methods and materials.
Interior Door Construction
INTERIOR STANDARD CONSTRUCTION – A.W.S. Premium Grade
- Stiles and rails – 1 3/4” thick
- Stiles and top rail 5” face measure
- Bottom rail 10” face measure
- Lock rail 6 1/2”, mid rails 3 5/8” face measure
- Core – Structural Composite Lumber (SCL) or LD2 Particleboard
- Cross band – High-Density Fiberboard (HDF)
- Edge banding – 7/8” solid wood of the required species glued under pressure to the core
- Stain Grade Face Veneer – 1/16” thick applied to both sides providing a blind edge match
- Paint Grade Face – High-Density Fiberboard (HDF)
Raised Panels – 1 1/8” thick
- “AA” grade veneer selected for grain and color match
- Rim banded panels with through grain and center balance matching
- Vacuum formed veneered raised panels
- Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF) raised panels — paint grade only
Flat Panels – 5/8″ thick
- Veneered particleboard
- Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF) – paint grade only
Assembly
- Cope and stick joinery using 1/2” x 4” dowels. Every joint is dowelled including glass grillwork.
- Glued and clamped under pressure using type 1 waterproof glue for at least one hour to prevent joint separation.
- Uniform sanding to 220 grit with eased edges (no cross-grain scratches).
